for their fall ready to wear show, sisters kate and laura mulleavy of rodarte, reflected on the area where they’d grown up — santa cruz, evidenced by acid-wash denim, sleek leotards, and tie-dye prints. somehow, the sisters managed to make it all fresh and new instead of a bad riff on the eighties. for the nails, a team from sally hansen custom-created a unique french manicure, using a neutral base and differing metallic shades for the tips. here, i re-created the look using chanel frenzy as a base, and then for the tips, from pinky to thumb, all essie: licorice, snake rattle and roll, no place like chrome, good as gold, penny talk.
